The JK Rowling speech is sensational.
I am headed to book club tonight. My friend Carmen is organising. I expect book club will not last forever as:
a) I have seen Carmen read three books and I lived with her for like, 4 years. They were: 'how to be a skinny bitch', this awful, depressing book by augustus something called 'running with scissors' and another one about dead people and past life regression therapy. Suffice to say, Carmen has eclectic tastes.
b) Book club with friends is doomed from the beginning. You'll never discuss the book. You'll eat pizza and talk about the weekend. Serious book club invovles meeting with strangers who then become friends, as seen in the hiarious tv series The Book Group.
We are reading the first short story in the book The Dead Fish Museum by Charles D'Ambrosio. I am thankful we aimed for something achievable for the inaugural meeting as I have not technically read the book/chapter yet and will have to do so when I get home. I have also been advised it is not very good (Carmen).
